Green Festival

Back in 2003, the North West CDC launched a three-tier green plan to promote Green @ School, Community and National level.

To consolidate our green efforts, we launched the inaugural month-long North West Green Festival in July 2007 to create greater awareness on the green issues, encourage our residents and students to put their green habits into practice and ultimately cultivate and promote a green culture in our District.

This year, the month-long Green Festival had three different focuses, namely:
(a) Reduce, (b) Reuse and (c) Recycle.
Some of the initiatives and events happening in July include the following:

(a) Launch of North West Green Festival 2008

Saturday, 5 July 2008
6.00pm - 8.00pm
Causeway Point, Atrium
GOH: Ms Ellen Lee

The CDC will open the month-long North West Green Festival on 5 July 2008 this year with an aim to create greater awareness and impact on GREEN issues, cultivate and promote a GREEN culture in the North West District.

The event will include a Green Walk from a park to Causeway Point. At the atrium, an array of green activities and programmes relating to the three focus areas (a) Reduce, (b) Reuse and (c) Recycle, will also be available to bring green messages and information to our shoppers and residents. Activities include green pledge corner, DIY booth and display of recycled arts. The highlights of this event is the fashion parade by 25 Kindergarten two students from PCF (Woodlands) who will be wearing clothings made from existing materials and garments which are specially designed by 25 fashion design students from Raffles Design Institute.

The two-day roadshow aims to attract more than 3,000 participants.

(b) Banner Transformation

May 2008 - June 2008

To extend the life of unwanted banners, the North West CDC had work with SCORE and Yellow Ribbon to involve their inmates to make use of unwanted banners to make into picnic mats. A total of 150 mats will be made and distributed during the North West Green Festival.

(c) Street Shows

28 June - 6 July 2008

Four street shows will be organised to provide environmental information to our residents in a light-hearted manner, targeting mainly the Chinese-educated and middle-aged residents. This 20-minute mandarin skit show by well-known JTeam celebrities will mention about the green living tips that our residents can practice in their daily lifestyle.

The street shows aim to attract 1,000 residents.

(d) DIY Fashion

May - July 2008

Twenty-five fashion design students from Raffles Design Institute will pair up with 25 Kindergarten two students from PCF (Woodlands Branch) in this programme to design children clothing using existing materials and clothings. All 25 tailored-made clothings will be showcase during the opening of the North West Green Festival through a fashion parade by the children.
